Computational Models of Human Visual Attention and Their Implementations: A Survey
نویسندگان
چکیده
We humans are easily able to instantaneously detect the regions in a visual scene that are most likely to contain something of interest. Exploiting this pre-selection mechanism called visual attention for image and video processing systems would make them more sophisticated and therefore more useful. This paper briefly describes various computational models of human visual attention and their development, as well as related psychophysical findings. In particular, our objective is to carefully distinguish several types of studies related to human visual attention and saliency as a measure of attentiveness, and to provide a taxonomy from several viewpoints such as the main objective, the use of additional cues and mathematical principles. This survey finally discusses possible future directions for research into human visual attention and saliency computation. key words: human visual attention, computational model, saliency, bottom-up, top-down

Just Noticeable Difference Estimation Using Visual Saliency in Images
Due to some physiological and physical limitations in the brain and the eye, the human visual system (HVS) is unable to perceive some changes in the visual signal whose range is lower than a certain threshold so-called just-noticeable distortion (JND) threshold. Visual attention (VA) provides a mechanism for selection of particular aspects of a visual scene so as to reduce the computational loa...
متن کاملFrom the human visual system to the computational models of visual attention: a survey
With the emerging interest in active vision, computer vision researchers have been increasingly concerned with the mechanisms of attention. Therefore, a number of visual attention computational models, inspired by the Human Visual System (HVS), have been developed. These models aim to detect regions of interest in images. In recent decades, psychologists, neurobiologists and engineers have inve...
متن کاملVisual Attention and Distributed Processing of Visual Information for the Control of Humanoid Robots
The function of visual attention is to identify interesting areas in the visual scene so that limited computational resources of a human or an artificial machine can be dedicated to the processing of regions with potentially interesting objects. Already early computational models of visual attention (Koch and Ullmann, 1985) suggested that attention consists of two functionally independent stage...
متن کاملSurvey of Learning Models in Medical Students of Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences in 2019: A Descriptive Study
Background and Objectives: All human progress and ascent is somehow related to his learning. One of the factors affecting learning is learning style. By knowing the learning styles of students, it is possible to provide teaching appropriate to their individual style. The aim of this study was to determine the learning styles of medical students of Rafsanjan University of Medical Sciences in 201...
متن کاملCompressed-Sampling-Based Image Saliency Detection in the Wavelet Domain
When watching natural scenes, an overwhelming amount of information is delivered to the Human Visual System (HVS). The optic nerve is estimated to receive around 108 bits of information a second. This large amount of information can’t be processed right away through our neural system. Visual attention mechanism enables HVS to spend neural resources efficiently, only on the selected parts of the...
